Emerging Trends in Information-Seeking Behavior for Alpha-Gal Syndrome: Infodemiology Study Using Time Series and Content Analysis

Emerging Trends in Information-Seeking Behavior for Alpha-Gal Syndrome: Infodemiology Study Using Time Series and Content Analysis

Food allergy is a growing public health concern. The global burden of food allergy is increasing, with 220 million individuals worldwide estimated to be affected by at least 1 food allergy [1-3]. In the United States, it is estimated that 26 million, or about 6.2%, of US adults and children have a food allergy [4].

User-Centered Design and Evaluation of Clinical Decision Support to Improve Early Peanut Introduction: Formative Study

User-Centered Design and Evaluation of Clinical Decision Support to Improve Early Peanut Introduction: Formative Study

Peanut allergy is by some reports the most common food allergy among children [1,2], with most recent data showing between 2% to 5% prevalence [3,4]. The prevalence of peanut allergy has nearly doubled in the past decades, posing a growing public health concern [5-7]. Unlike many other types of food allergies, peanut allergy is rarely outgrown [8,9], leading to lifelong impact. Up to 60% of children with peanut allergy experience a severe allergic reaction [3,10-12].

Impaired respiratory status has also been reported by Douglas et al [6] and Dahlman-Høglund et al [7], and the prevalence of allergy is reported to be 2%-8% [6,8]. Avoidance or reduction of hazardous exposures at the workplace is well established as a key principle for the primary prevention of occupational diseases.

The Effectiveness of Early Food Introduction in Preventing Childhood Allergic Diseases: Protocol for a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

The Effectiveness of Early Food Introduction in Preventing Childhood Allergic Diseases: Protocol for a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Additionally, the preservation of “beneficial” gut microbiota in the neonate prevents immunity alteration that subsequently predisposes him/her from developing an allergy [9]. As a result, many researchers propose nutritional allergy interventions during this period, such as prolonged breastfeeding, early introduction of foods, maternal avoidance diets during pregnancy and lactation, use of hypoallergenic formulas, and early allergen avoidance, albeit with varying degrees of success [8,10,11].

Health Literate Internet-Based Information-Seeking Processes: Theory-Based Development of a Conceptual Model

Health Literate Internet-Based Information-Seeking Processes: Theory-Based Development of a Conceptual Model

This will provide the theoretical basis for upcoming analyses of empirical data on the IBS processes of parents for the health topic of early childhood allergy prevention (ECAP). ECAP is characterized by uncertainties regarding reliable evidence and recommendations [4]. The adaptation of the HL model followed a deductive literature-based approach. Considering models of cognitive psychology and health behavior, the focus was on characterizing information processing (IP) and search actions.

Exploring Relationships Between Tweet Numbers and Over-the-counter Drug Sales for Allergic Rhinitis: Retrospective Analysis

Exploring Relationships Between Tweet Numbers and Over-the-counter Drug Sales for Allergic Rhinitis: Retrospective Analysis

This paper focuses only on the Japanese language, in which several allergy symptoms are not polysemic. However, allergy symptoms in other languages may have multiple meanings. In addition to polysemic words, idioms, including allergy symptoms, could bias word frequencies. This aspect is worth studying in the future. However, the actual number of patients with allergic rhinitis is still unknown.

From the Cochrane Library: Skin Care Interventions in Infants for Preventing Eczema and Food Allergy

From the Cochrane Library: Skin Care Interventions in Infants for Preventing Eczema and Food Allergy

The cost of care and daily attention required to treat both eczema and food allergy represent significant burdens to individuals and families. Without a global standard for neonatal or infant skin care, and with few emollient studies performed in term infants, Kelleher et al’s Cochrane review [2] provides a much-needed assessment of the evidence for emollients and other interventions to prevent eczema, as well as their effects on the development of food allergy.

Googling Allergy in Ireland: Content Analysis

Googling Allergy in Ireland: Content Analysis

Google Trends was used to evaluate interest by region of allergy-related search terms over a 10-year period (January 1, 2009, to December 31, 2018) [13]. The search terms used were “allergy” and related subsearches “allergy test,” “food allergy,” and “food intolerance.” The period of trend analysis was purposely predated to the start of 2019 so that our subsequent searches in July 2019 did not interfere with the trend results.
