Publication Counts in Context: Normalization Using Query and Reference Terms in PubMed

Moreover, commercial tools are available, such as Sci Val by Elsevier or Web of Science and Insight by Clarivate, which use more comprehensive datasets from larger literature databases and citation data to generate individual research portfolios or analyze publication trends. Here, we propose a noncommercial, pragmatic approach, which does not overwhelm the user with statistical details but retains the simplicity of the original approach as illustrated in Figure 1.

Social Media Impact of Articles Published by Dermatology Residents During Medical School: Cross-sectional Study

Social Media Impact of Articles Published by Dermatology Residents During Medical School: Cross-sectional Study

Prior groups have assessed the correlation between the AS and citation count [3,4]. Others have used traditional bibliometrics to evaluate medical student research productivity in various fields [7,8]. Since there is only a short time period when students can publish before applying for residency, metrics that take years to accumulate, such as citation count and the h-index, are not reliable for assessment of publication impact during medical school [3].

The Association Between Professional Accounts on Social Networks Twitter and ResearchGate and the Number of Scientific Publications and Citations Among Anesthesia Researchers: Observational Study

The link between social and usage metrics (altmetrics) and traditional bibliometric indicators is weak and variable, but Twitter’s altmetrics indicators seem to perform well in predicting the actual citation rate [9,10]. Twitter users tweet the articles they write and it is known that tweets can predict highly cited articles within the first days of an article publication [10-12].
