There were 12 (24%) out of 49 studies that did not mention if any additional clinical information was added to the teledermoscopy consultation [20,23,24,27,28,38,39,47,52, 54,63,64]. A total of 2 (4%) out of 49 studies mentioned that no additional clinical information was added to the teledermoscopy consultation [22,51].
The majority (44/49, 90%) of studies reported that the teledermoscopy consultation was assessed by a dermatologist or teledermatologist [2,18-21,23-42,45-62,64].

Teledermoscopy was thought to make shared monitoring of particular lesions of concern more convenient for high-risk patients living at a distance from dermatology services. Clinicians said that teledermoscopy enables quick feedback for lesions that the patient thinks are potentially concerning, either facilitating prompt review in the clinic if necessary or otherwise alleviating worry and a potentially long period of anxiety ahead of the next routinely scheduled visit.

To Refer or Not to Refer in Teledermoscopy: Retrospective Study
Teledermoscopy (TDsc) can provide diagnostic support to GPs to accurately triage people with suspicious skin lesions [5-8]. With TDsc, more urgent cases can be correctly referred to a dermatologist, while unnecessary referrals of people with nonsuspicious skin lesions who can be managed in primary care are avoided [5-11].

In this nested qualitative study among a subset of intervention arm participants, we aimed to explore patients’ perceptions and experiences of patient-led surveillance using mobile teledermoscopy, to understand possible determinants of adherence, and to identify opportunities for improving implementation of the intervention during the larger RCT.
